The important development path of a software engineer

Usually at the age of early 20s, when people start their journey as a software engineer, they are very motivated. With goals to survive in the workplace, to develop software to make the world a better place.

However, as they approach age 30s, they tend to develop a stronger and stronger feeling of loss or struggle. Either it's because software becomes a mundane documentation/quick start guide, or a loss of hope or goals to aim for.

An important stage of life

This main goal for your early career is to improve your

  • ability to study

A solid knowledge foundation, ablity to discover the root cause of a problem, ability to think critically and independently

  • ability to solve a difficult problem

This is related to your ability to study. Also, you have been through many case scenarios, make or solve many mistakes. To be able to prevent not just react

The main idea is to develop the foundation for your future. You don’t want to be the one that works hard on mundane and simple problems. You may earn more by doing so, but they won’t help you at all as you grow older. Think about the future.
